A Brief History of EL ARGENTINO-MercoSur
Published since 1987
The newspaper
EL
ARGENTINO-MercoSur
came to life in April 1987 due to the need of Argentinean community in Florida
to feel a closer connection to its roots. The main goal of the newspaper was to
establish a bridge between the Argentina and its citizens living overseas.
Through the years
the Argentinean community residing across the USA were growing in numbers with
the arrival of new immigrants. Through this newspaper, not only the immigrants,
but their children and even their grandchildren had a monthly link to their
mother land.
In order to
spread news of the newspaper activities throughout the USA, and to show concern
for the country, the paper organized business delegations from Argentina
and was actively involved in community functions.
Since 1992,the
strength of the newspaper’s distributions grew after acquiring its own news
racks, especially in the Miami-Dade area. This allowed not only Argentinean
readers, but readers from other Latin America countries, and tourists, to be
familiar with the newspaper and its news.
In
1994,coinciding with the America’s Summit Conference, the newspaper introduced
its English Section, resulting in it being one of the few bilingual
newspapers in the community. This allowed a more effective contact with the
English speaking world. At the same time, the paper changed its size to a
broadsheet, as it currently produced.
In 1996,in order
to follow the hemispheric changes of the time, the newspaper introduced its
second section called MercoSur, which covered information about the
countries that are members of the MercoSur group: Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay,
Chile and Uruguay. At this year with begin to be the only Argentinean newspaper
with certification and paid advertising for Miami-Dade County.
At this present moment
EL ARGENTINO-MercoSur

Angeles, Orlando, Tampa, Puerto Rico and, of course, South Florida.
The newspaper has
been supported by companies like American, United, LAB, Aerolíneas Argentinas,
Western Union and AT&T, for more than 14 years and certified by Miami-Dade
County
At the turn of
the millennium in 1999,the newspaper entered the Internet information
superhighway. This step has helped to achieve the biggest desire of this
newspaper, to be a link between all the Argentineans, in any place in the world
they may be.
